It could be a real bummer in other situations. I have an X-event
catching loop that reads an S-expression from stdin when ever there is
something to read. This makes it possible to type in Scheme in one
window while seeing X work in the other window. Reading too far could
make the whole thing lock up. (Stuck trying to read newlines forever.)
