Thanks for the response.
I read a little about REST here

I'm not clear on how REST is going to help me, I feel like I'm stuck in
REST.  I guess I have to reprogram tmycin to become stateless?

I'll look at what's in the future for my little Decision support project to
see if I chose AJAX or Uncommon web... I think using REST goes without
saying... its only a last resort to go stateful... I agree.

by the way, I am a radiology resident, ironically just got my full license
to practice medicine in Massachusetts yesterday.  But I have no plans to
practice medicine on the internet.

Thanks for the emacs warning... I do feel that there's something in
sentinels (forgetting web programming).
