So, I've now traded a few private mails about this topic, and before I lose
track of everything, I'd like to summarize what I've learned.
As it turns out, there *is* a French translation effort ongoing. I was
contacted by Christophe Chauvet <christophe at kryskool.org> (Cc:ed herein),
who pointed me to that translation team's Trac instance at
http://svnbook.kryskool.org/.
So, per Christophe's (wise) request, I've updated the TranslatorHookUp Wiki
page to point folks look to be French contributors over to that site.
Also, I did the following in communications with Christophe:
* First, I extended an invitation for his team to move their efforts
to svnbook.com, offering to load their repository history and such
into ours, grant commit priveleges to his team members, etc. Short
of doing that, I asked if one of them would at least maintain
an index.fr.html page for us that could point to their remote
translation efforts.
* Secondly, I mildly chastised him for the fact that they are basically
popping up the svnbook.com web pages (or older versions of them, at
least) on their site. That's not such a terrible thing except that
a) they still say things like "This is the online home of Version
Control with Subversion..." (which is not true of kryskool.org),
and b) they don't point folks back to svnbook.com for the non-French
stuff. There are a lot of broken links on those pages as a result.
So, I hope that there can be at least some unification of efforts around the
French translation of the book. I'm thrilled that such a translation is
happening, but am concerned about the user confusion caused by the obvious
disconnect between the two efforts.
