Well, sorta.  The HACKING file dictates that lines not exceed 78 characters.
 But it also dictates that '\' be used as a line continuation character -- I
forgot that latter part.  I need to go through the whole book with an eye on
consistifying around these points.

I put this patch off as long as I felt I could -- I was dreading it.  In the
end, it didn't turn out to be too terrible.  A half-day's effort or so.
(But definitely not one of the most rewarding bits of documentation work
I've ever done.)
