Your're right about your view of modern computers. They are quite fast. And it is possible to do what you tell me (keep a board position at each tree or keep internal records). And I am doming this in Jago, of course. However, it is just so unnecessary with a little care in the standards. A good idea would be to save AE[jj] as AE[jj:w] or similar to indicate the removal of a white stone. As to the comments. Yes, there are soft comments. These are as unnecessary as compressed point lists in my oppinion. For SGF are not meant to be human readable.
