Thank you very much for this. Patches are always particularly welcome.
I've integrated this, with a couple of minor tweaks:

-) I've called the option --show-dead, to be a shade clearer. --dead is quite
ambiguous. :-)

-) I've dropped the -D option, since I'm reserving the single-character
options for the really common ones. At the next major version change,
however, I may well include the [DEAD] as the default.

This will appear in 2.48, in the next couple of days.
